Brijast

Alright, since this is the first in a series of artworks, I should explain what the series is about. It's about something that is terribly wrong in our industry: crunch. A barbaric and anachronistic brute force solution eagerly employed by Mr. Bossman. I say: Let people live and enjoy the fruits of their labor in the little time they have for themselves after work. That said, I am excited to announce I'll be crunching out 46 artworks for Zvery in the next fifty-odd days. I'll be making one every day excluding Sundays.

This is the first one: Brijast.  (Name to be reworked)

It is a radioactive chick. That's all there is to it. Well, not really. It's also emerging from ashes presumably as a phoenix-type reincarnation of a larger chicken Zvery. Perhaps, I was subconsciously inspired to create an artwork that shows new beginnings or rebirth. Or maybe, this being the first, and I just wanted to get into the groove and start very simply. I don't think I have to reinvent every animal out there to do something cool. I just wanted to experiment with some lighting, while also elegantly clearing the first hurdle in this race to the finish line.

God is in the details. For that reason, I plan to come back to it later and add something that alludes to a larger Zvery from which it reincarnated, perhaps Snomora. I popped Brijast out in an hour and a half, while Snomora took around 24 hours. As I am not a particularly experienced or adroit pixel-artist, I have had the insight to forgo these longer, overly-complex pieces. I think I ought to just pack in 46 bad artworks before trying to pixel-push my way to perfection.

At the same time, I believe a simple glowing chick is fine! I did it really quickly with the sole goal of doing it quickly, but it looks pretty cool. Sure, there are details and fractal intricacies missing, but the average player probably wouldn't cringe away from it. In any case, it is immeasurably better than the flat emptiness of an artless card.

I am writing this stream-of-consciousness-style because I don't want to spend 2 hours pixelling and 2 hours writing every day. It is true that when going for speed you will pay in other areas, but sometimes speed can teach you something as well.

To recapitulate my thoughts: it's simple and not out of the box, but it works. The details that players might fall in love with are still open to be added later!

Catch me tomorrow,

Zivan.
